Those Already in Detention Here

The refugees held in our detention centres must not be overlooked in the appeals of those demanding assistance for those in Europe.  They should to be released into the community.

It ought to be considered that the refugees in Europe are also “boat people” as moving from Turkey to Greece necessitated resorting to people smugglers and boats. This puts all asylum seekers on the one plain.

It is necessary to develop a processing centre in the country they first flee to safely and eliminate their need to need to resort to smugglers boats.  This could be achieved by financing the UNHCR with the necessary funds and political will.

At this time only approximately one third of funding promised to UNHCR has been given by responsible world governments.  This is disgraceful.
