Great Lakes Rural Australians for Refugees is a member of the RCOA and will be marking Refugee Week with two films. Freedom Stories will be shown at the Great Lakes Library on Wednesday 15th June at 6.30pm. This is a good news film of the stories of asylum seekers who arrived in the early 2000’s, many of whom have settled well and one particular story is of Amir who some of us have met when he lived in Tuncurry for a few months.
There will be no charge for this film and refreshments will be served.
On Sunday 19th GLRAR will host the film Chasing Asylum at the Great Lakes Cinema 3. The morning will commence with light refreshments at 11.15 am before a 12 Midday start. This is a informative film for all those who can’t imagine what it is to be a refugee and how they struggle to survive. There will be a charge of $15-00 for a ticket. All donations and funds raised by GLRAR are sent onto refugee advocates and groups such as RCOA, UNHCR and ChillOut to help fund their work for refugees.
Supporter of GLRAR would welcome all who wish to attend one or both of these functions as it is critical to raise awareness of the plight of refugees.
