GLRAR HOLDS FORUM OF CONCERN FOR THE PLIGHT OF ASYLUM SEEKERS BEING RETURNED TO NAURU

Great Lakes Rural Australians for Refugees held a Forum of Concern in the Catholic Parish Hall, Forster on Saturday 13th February.
The forum was address by four speakers, Father Greg Barker,Catholic Parich Priest, expressed concern about returning children and babies to Nauru where medical facilities are really inadequate for the proper care of many ill people and especially children.

Mr Stephen Ballentyne convenor of the local Greens, outlined the Greens far more humane policy on the treatment of all asylum seekers.

Mrs. Gaye Tindall, and Mr Graham Robinson, members of Forster Tuncurry Labor Party branch outlined motions that they had put to the branch meeting. Mr. Robinson read the final motion, that outlined the meeting’s concerns about Labor’s present policy on seeking asylum, this motion was forwarded to the NSW Labor Conference that was held on Saturday 13th February.

There were numerous questions and statements made by those attending the forum and all were invited to place their suggested actions or comments on a white board that featured a large map of Australia. This action, along with plenty of discussion continued over afternoon tea.
